Christmas Fonts for Canva: 6 Festive Scripts (and How to Use Their Swashes)

A good Christmas font does half the work on a card, a gift tag or an Instagram post. The problem: Canva’s built-in library has only a handful of festive scripts, and everyone uses the same ones.
Here are six Christmas fonts from Creative Fabrica that look lovely in Canva, plus the two things nobody tells you: how to get them into Canva and how to use the fancy swashes that make script fonts look hand-lettered.
Which font for which project
| Font | Style | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Adorable Christmas | elegant script with swashes | greeting cards, crafts |
| Family Christmas | luxurious calligraphy | invitations, gift tags |
| Wonderful Christmas | round, playful handwriting | kids’ cards, social posts |
| Sunday Christmas | bold flowing script | headlines, signs, Cricut |
| Miracle Christmas | quirky hand-drawn script | labels, packaging, blog graphics |
| Jolly Christmas | modern calligraphy | logos, menus, place cards |
1. Adorable Christmas
ScriptSwashesCommercial use
A sweet script with elegant swashes, made for holiday greeting cards. The swashes and extra glyphs are PUA encoded, which means you can use them in Canva (see the swash trick below).
Best for: one big word on a card front: Joy, Noel, a family name.
2. Family Christmas
Calligraphy scriptLigaturesAlternatesCommercial use
The most “expensive-looking” font on this list: sweeping swashes, elegant ligatures and dramatic ascenders and descenders, like real ink penmanship.
Best for: New Year’s Eve invitations, personalised gift tags, a short message inside a card. Tip: give it room. Long ascenders and descenders need extra line spacing in Canva (Spacing → Line height).
3. Wonderful Christmas
Rounded handwritingEasy to readCommercial use
Casual, round and friendly, the opposite of fancy calligraphy. Because it’s so readable, it also works for longer lines of text.
Best for: kids’ Christmas cards, school flyers, Instagram stories, classroom labels.
4. Sunday Christmas
Bold scriptWorks with CricutCommercial use
A bold, flowing calligraphy script with smooth connections between letters. The thicker strokes make it a good choice for cutting machines like Cricut and Silhouette, where thin hairlines are hard to cut.
Best for: headlines, signs, door hangers, vinyl decals.
5. Miracle Christmas
Hand-drawn scriptAlternatesLigaturesCommercial use
Quirky and natural, like someone wrote it by hand in a hurry, in the best way. Comes with alternates and ligatures (PUA encoded).
Best for: handmade shop labels, cookie bags, blog and Pinterest graphics.
6. Jolly Christmas
Modern calligraphyLigaturesCommercial use
A stylish handwritten font inspired by classic calligraphy, but balanced and modern. It stays elegant without being hard to read.
Best for: small-business logos, Christmas dinner menus, place cards.
How to add these fonts to Canva
Uploading your own fonts works on Canva Pro, Teams, Business, Education and Nonprofits (not on the free plan).
- Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip the folder. Canva can’t read ZIP files.
- In Canva, go to Brand in the left panel and choose your Brand Kit.
- Open Fonts → Upload a font and pick the .otf or .ttf file.
- In any design, select a text box → Font. Your font appears under Uploaded fonts.
If the upload fails, try the other file format (OTF ↔ TTF). Canva also doesn’t accept WOFF2 files.
The swash trick: using fancy letters in Canva
Script fonts often come with extra “swash” letters: long tails, loops and decorative endings. Canva doesn’t have a glyph panel, but fonts that are PUA encoded (like Adorable, Family, Miracle and Jolly Christmas) let you copy those letters anyway:
- Install the font on your computer.
- Open a character viewer: Character Map on Windows or Font Book on Mac. Many Creative Fabrica font pages also have a “View all glyphs” link.
- Find the swash version of the letter you want and copy it.
- Paste it into your Canva text box (with the same font selected).
Use swashes on the first and last letter of a word only. That’s where they look intentional, not messy.
A quick note on licences
All six fonts show “Commercial licence included” on their product pages, so you can use them on things you sell, like printed cards, labels or mugs. Always check the licence on the product page before you start a commercial project.
Clipart to go with these fonts
A festive font looks even better next to matching clipart. These are my own hand-painted sets (not affiliate links):
- Pastel Christmas: 22 watercolor PNG in blush pink, sage and gold. Lovely with an elegant script like Great Vibes or Family Christmas.
- Vintage Christmas Storybook: 22 PNG in a nostalgic 1950s storybook style. Pairs well with bold, vintage scripts.
- Cozy Winter Wonderland: 23 PNG of Scandinavian-style winter animals, a snowy cabin and mittens. Try it with a rounded font.
- Midnight New Year’s Eve: 22 PNG for New Year’s Eve invitations and countdown printables.
See all my sets on the shop page.
Merry designing! More festive finds: Cozy Christmas clipart & fonts.
